What you need to know about (legally) starting & running a business

Legal mistakes can undermine a new business. This event, which features a panel of business attorneys will discuss best legal practices for launching and running a new business venture. Topics will include (1) selecting and operating a business entity; (2) financing considerations; (3) hiring of employees and independent contractors; (4) protecting intellectual property; (5) business contracts; and (6) licensing and permitting. Our expert panel includes:

  • Nathan Hammons is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic at Marquette University Law School. Through the Clinic, Professor Hammons provides pro bono legal services to entrepreneurs and new businesses in southeastern Wisconsin.
  • Stephanie Menick has been practicing law in the Milwaukee area for over 20 years and currently owns Melnick & Melnick, S.C. – a law firm that caters to small and medium-sized businesses. Stephanie also started She Stands Tall to help female entrepreneurs and business owners network, learn, and grow.
  • Emil Ovbiagele is the Managing Attorney/Founder of OVB Law & Consulting, S.C. He works with closely-held businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals. Emil practices in the areas of business law, commercial litigation, and employment law. He is also an adjunct assistant professor at Marquette University Law School.

There will be a 30 minute panel discussion and time for Q&A afterwards. It will be a great networking opportunity with entrepreneurs, professionals, and business leaders!

The event will be held at The Tandem and the ticket includes the panel, (1) drink ticket, and hors d’oeuvres provided by the Tandem.
